USB Power supply?
« on: April 27, 2020, 11:08:28 AM »
Can I use the USB connector of the Clearnav x/c to power an Oudie, or is it only for data transfer?

Also, if I send a task from my Oudie to the Clearnav x/c, will that just serve as a declaration, or will the task then be available in the clearnav for navigation purposes as well?

CNv's USB probably does supply power, but is trivially easy to overload.  Please do not use for charging your phone, powering any device, including Oudie.  It is intended ONLY for USB thumb drives.

Not sure what the comm story is with Oudie.  I know it was looked at eons ago and I know CNv developer has an Oudie.   There may be some undocumented comm capability in there via serial port.

Thanks Evan. It sounds as though even plugging the Oudie in to attempt the task loading might draw power and overload the clearnav?

The CNv USB port is only for a USB drive.

Oudie can (I think) communicate via serial port.

Oudie can indeed communicate with CNv over the serial port.
In my glider I exchange MC / water / bugs, and use CNv as the primary GPS source.
Tasks I normally load from SoaringSpot (Oudie -> Oudie live on andriod) then upload to ClarNav vario, or directly from a task in Oudie.
